I hope this letter finds you well. As we begin this year’s tax season, I want to share some important tax law changes resulting from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB). To help you prepare for your appointment and streamline the process, I’ve included key updates and a list of documents that may help you maximize your refund.
- Key Changes Under the OBBB:
- State and Local Tax (SALT) Deduction Increased for tax years 2025-2029
The SALT deduction limit has been raised from $10,000 to $40,000. This increase may make itemizing deductions on Schedule A more beneficial if your itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction. - Trump Savings Accounts for tax years 2025-2028
A new type of account, referred to as a "Trump Account," is for U.S. children born between 2025 and 2028, who have a Social Security number. The Trump Account includes a one-time $1,000 deposit from the federal government initiated through your tax return. These funds can be used for future education, homeownership, or entrepreneurial ventures.- Contributions must be invested in a diversified fund tracking a U.S. equity index.
- Allows up to $5,000 in annual, non-deductible contributions per child, starting in July 2026.
- Accounts must be opened before the child turns 8.
- No contributions may be made after the child turns 18.
- Additional guidance is pending.

- No Tax on Tips (Above-the-Line Deduction) for tax years 2025-2028
Tips received in customary tipped occupations may now qualify for an above-the-line deduction of up to $25,000.- Applies to W-2 employees.
- Excludes tips received in specified service trades or businesses under section 199A(d)(2).
- Applies to W-2 employees.
- No Tax on Overtime (Above-the-Line Deduction) for tax years 2025-2028
Similar to tips, qualified overtime pay is eligible for a deduction:- The deductible amount is only the premium paid, not the straight time for the hours.
- Up to $12,500 for single filers or $25,000 for married couples filing jointly.
- Deduction phases out for incomes over $150,000 (single) or $300,000 (MFJ).

- Enhanced Deduction for Seniors for tax years 2025-2028
Seniors aged 65 and older are eligible for a new $6,000 deduction per filer.- Income must not exceed $75,000 (single) or $150,000 (MFJ).
- This is in addition to the current standard deduction for seniors.

- Car Loan Interest Deduction for tax years 2025-2028
A new deduction of up to $10,000 is available for interest paid on qualified passenger vehicle loans for new vehicles assembled in the U.S with GVWR under 14,000 lbs.- Deduction phases out for incomes over $100,000 (single) or $200,000 (MFJ).
- Vehicle types include cars, minivans, SUVs, pickup trucks, and motorcycles.

- Gambling Loss Deduction decreases beginning in 2026
Gambling losses are deductible only up to 90% of gambling winnings. - Above-the-Line Charitable Deduction beginning in 2026
Non-itemizers will be able to deduct charitable contributions:- Up to $1,000 for single filers
- Up to $2,000 for married couples filing jointly
- Up to $1,000 for single filers
